Until the 11th, Hong Kong's waterfront will transform into a display of monumental proportions, featuring five giant inflatable replicas of the world's wonders, including Stonehenge and the Moai statues. The event, known as SummerFest@Central, is free for the public on weekdays from 3 PM to 9 PM and extends its hours during the weekends and public holidays. This year's theme revolves around 'The World', inspired by the Olympics, bringing global landmarks to the city.

The Vision Behind the Inflatables

The curator of this year's SummerFest@Central shared that this is the eighth iteration of the event, with each year adopting a unique theme. This year’s selection of five wonders aims to give residents a taste of global marvels without leaving Hong Kong. The inflatables were designed by Armenian AI artist Joann, whose innovative approach uses generative AI to create artworks that are now brought to life as physical installations.

Safety and Sustainability

The event organizers emphasized the safety and durability of the installations. The inflatable wonders are designed as open-air structures that are resistant to weather-related risks, such as bursting in unstable conditions. In case of damage, an underlying continuous inflation system prevents collapse, ensuring the structures remain upright and safe for visitors.

Weather Contingency Plans

In the interest of visitor safety, the event has clear protocols for adverse weather conditions. Should the Hong Kong Observatory issue a strong wind signal No. 3, or a red or higher rainstorm warning, the event will be temporarily halted. These measures guarantee that the enjoyment of the inflatable wonders does not compromise safety.
